What do I do about my drops?

Before
Continue with your usual drops as instructed even on the morning of surgery.  Very occasionally, we will instruct you to stop one or more of the drops and treat the intraocular pressure with tablets instead.

After
Stop the glaucoma pressure reducing drops and take the following:-

i) Pred Forte – every 2 hours by day (ie 8 times per day).  This is an ant-inflammatory steroid drop, which is vital prevent scarring up of the hole made in the eye at the time of surgery.

ii) Chloramphenicol – 4 times per day.  This is a broad spectrum antibiotic drop.  Some patients can taste this drop after it has drained into the back of the throat.

iii) Cyclopentolate – twice a day.  This drop dilates the pupil and pulls the iris back into the eye. This reduces the risk of the iris blocking the internal opening made in the eye at the time of surgery.  Unfortunately, it stings and blurs your vision.
